Today we saw the 10 year treasury radio push much higher, very close to 3.1%. This in turn has pushed average 30 year fixed refinance mortgage rates very close to 4.5%. Some regional and national banks are reporting mortgage rates much higher include PNC, TD Bank and HSBC.
With this in mind it may be a wise decision to take advantage of the low interest rate environment while it is available. The 10 year treasury rate your breaks above its 200 day and 50 day moving average and there’s a good chance that we could see an uptrend started. If the 10 year yield continues to move much higher we will likely see 30 year fixed mortgage rates move towards 5%.
Luckily, there many free resources available online help homeowners when it comes to refinancing home loan. By accessing the HUD website most homeowners will find that there are many free resources that can help them much better understand each and every step of the refinance process. By understanding the steps some homeowners could end up saving hundreds and possibly even thousands of dollars.
As the overall economy continues to improve and the unemployment rate drops there is very little argument to be made that interest rates will start to move up. With that being said, the unemployment rate has recently picked up at 9.1% and many feel as if the economy will take several more months and possibly even years to recover.
For Americans looking to refinance the general rule of thumb is that they should desire to save at least one full percentage point. If these individuals cannot say one full percentage point it is often true that closing costs will outweigh benefits. This is why it is always important to contact several mortgage lenders and get a competitive interest rate quote before making any final decisions.
