On Wednesday of this week the federal reserve bank announced that they are going to continue to keep interest rates historically low for an extended period of time. With this being the case many American homeowners will continue to seek today’s lowest mortgage interest rates in hopes of locking in to fixed or adjustable home loans at an all-time low level.
Even if homeowners can not lock into the lowest possible rates it is still wise to consider the refinance process in April or May of 2011. The general rule of thumb is that homeowners should desire to save at least one full percentage point if they hope to benefit from the refinance process. Without saving this one full percentage point it is often true that homeowners will find that closing costs outweigh benefits.
Luckily, there are many free mortgage calculators available online that should help homeowners match better understand just how much money they can save with a specific interest rate. It is always advisable to do a significant amount of research before making any financial decision and this is even more important when it comes to a home loan.
With many free resources available online including the HUD website there is no reason to pass up an opportunity to expand one’s knowledge. By understanding each and every step of the mortgage and refinance process it could be the case that homeowners have an ability to save hundreds and even thousands of dollars.
With the overall economy improving over the last several months there is a good chance that interest rates could move up in the near future. Even though the Federal Reserve Bank continues to keep interest rates while there is always a chance that they could change their commentary and allow the market to set interest rates which will likely push 30 year fixed rates well above 5%.
