Many Americans are seeking help when it comes to personal finances but it is important to understand that help from of the Obama administration is not available for debt settlement or debt relief. A federal government credit card debt relief plan, program or service is not available at the present time and any company claiming to have government approval will likely be reprimanded in the near future.
The FTC has done a very good job helping Americans avoid scams when it comes to credit card debt relief. Over the last several months many new laws have been in force that help Americans not only avoid scams would save a significant amount of money in the long run.
When dealing with high interest rate credit card debt it is always advisable to access the FTC website and better understand what options are available. One of the best things that most American households can do is create a strong weekly or monthly budget. By budgeting money wisely and individuals will better understand where money is being spent which in turn will allow them to cut back in excess areas.
It is sometimes the case that individual households simply need to give up on those extra items until they can get out of high interest-rate debt. Instead of buying new tires for a car every single year or upgrading golf clubs every six months and may be wise to simply do with what you have until those high interest rate credit card debts are paid down.
Unfortunately, many bad credit borrowers can not take advantage of the current low interest rate environment due to the fact that their credit score has dropped and they have seen an increase in their debt to income ratio. By reducing a debt to income ratio customers will have much more negotiating power to lower interest rates but that could take several months and possibly years.
