Does the Mail Service Run on Martin Luther King Day? US Post Office Holiday on January 17, MLK Day

With January 17th, 2011 being a government holiday many people will likely ask the question, “does the mail service run on Martin Luther King Day?”  The answer to this question is no as the MLK Monday holiday is a Post Office holiday therefore postal workers will have the day off along with many other government workers.


Another common question that will be asked over the next 24 hours is “are banks open on MLK Day?”  Once again, the answer to this question is no as January 17th, 2011 will be a bank holiday as well.  This means that the stock market will not open and almost all schools and universities will be closed.


When looking to receive a package through the USPS customers will have to wait until Tuesday, January 18th, 2011.  More likely, it will be the case that individuals will want to mail a package or letter but, once again, they will have to wait one more day to send this piece of mail to it’s destination.

Before heading to the USPS store in your area it would be a wise decision to do some research and realize that the MLK holiday is also a post office holiday.  The USPS will open again on Tuesday morning.
