Monday, January 17th, 2011 is a national bank holiday is it is Martin Luther King Day. Many people will ask the question, “are banks open on Martin Luther King Day?” and the answer to that is no. It is also the case that MLK Monday is a holiday for the stock market. The New York Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ will be closed along with banks.
With millions of people going in to work on MLK Monday it will be interesting to see how many are wondering if banks will open. It is a very unique holiday in that many private corporations conduct business but it is a government holiday. Most schools, universities and other government institutions will not open on Martin Luther King Day.
If bank customers are looking to deposit money then it will likely be the case that the only option is through an ATM. Over the last several years many banks have offered bank deposits through an ATM even if it is cash or check. As technology continues to increase it will be interesting to see if we have to go to the bank for any transactions.
There will likely be several major sales and deals from major retailers as all holidays bring out low prices. With this being true it might be the case that many are looking to gain access to a little bit of extra cash. Once again, it will probably be the case that only ATM options are available when it comes to taking out money.
With many Americans greatly struggling when it comes to high interest rate debts it might be a good time to step back and create a budget. Rather than going out and spending money on MLK Day this might be a great chance to go through some personal finances and figure out how to relieve a debt problem.
