Federal Government Credit Card Debt Relief – President Obama and Administration Enforce New Debt Settlement Rules

Posted on | December 22, 2010 | No Comments

With the unemployment rate near 9% and millions of Americans having exhausted their unemployment benefits it comes as no surprise to see large number of people looking for federal government credit card debt relief plans, programs or services. Before making any assumptions or doing research it is important to remember that there is no such thing as an Obama or government credit card debt relief plan.

As we get closer and closer to the Christmas holiday it is the case that more and more Americans feel the pinch when it comes to expenses and money. It will likely be the case that many people get this holiday season without realizing just how much money was spent on Christmas gifts and travel. Unfortunately, this is all too common in the United States.

Many Americans who have greatly struggled with high interest rate credit card debt will likely look for government or Obama help but it is important to recognize that there are no such programs. There are opportunities to save by creating a strong weekly or monthly budget and slowly paying off that credit card debt over time.

The FTC and federal government have recently changed the rules when it comes to debt relief and debt settlement. On October 27, 2010 the Obama administration decided to make certain that upfront fees could not be charged on debt relief for debt settlement services. This could help many customers better understand what options are available before making any payments.

The FTC website also offers many valuable resources when it comes to budgeting money and reducing high interest-rate debt. By creating a spreadsheet or a weekly document that states were all money is going some Americans could better understand how to save and get out of high interest-rate debt sooner than they imagined.  The FTC website is a great resource to use as help.
