Posted on | November 26, 2010 | No Comments

As millions of people will be out and about looking for the best sales and deals many people will ask the question “are banks open on Black Friday 2010?”  Banks will be open on November 26, 2010 as Black Friday or the Friday after Thanksgiving is not a national bank holiday.  Thanksgiving is a bank holiday but the Friday after is not.

A list of the national bank holidays is located at this link. The New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ will close early on Black Friday as it is scheduled to close at 1:00 pm eastern.  With this being the case we can expect to see very light trading as some traders and employees will likely take a long weekend.

With a large number of people out and about looking for great Black Friday sales it will likely be the case that many of them stop at their local bank.  Banks usually see quite a bit of activity this time of year as American households tend to spend much more during the months of November and December with holidays littering the calendar.

Before spending a ton of money on Black Friday or any major shopping day it might be wise to step back and create a very strong budget.  A large number of Americans continue to struggle when it comes to personal finances and it might be a good idea to cut back when it comes to Christmas gifts in 2010.   While it is highly unlikely that Americans will cut out all gifts there is no reason to not at least consider cutting back.

Over the next few weekends many retailers will offer great sales and deals so it would also be smart for Americans to become very thrifty shoppers.  Taking advantage of very low prices could keep a little bit of extra money in their bank accounts.  When the discussion of banks being open on Black Friday 2010 it will be the case that most, if not all, banks will be open.
