The structure of this article looks good. There are a few missing ingredients.
1. While the intention of a Consumer Credit Counseling program is to help lower the interest rates on your credit cards, most retail stores and Discover will not lower their interest rates.
2. If your debt has been purchased by a collection company or attorney, they will not cooperate with the CCC program and lower any interest rates they put on the debt.
3. For the past 40 years, about 18% of the people that enter into the CCC program actually finish the program and walk away with zero debt. The biggest concern that people have is that they don’t see their principle going down.
4. The profile of a successful customer runs about $8000 to $17,000 of debt.
5. 30 years ago, the “reduced interest rate” was down to about 4 – 5%. Now, the “reduced interest rate” runs about 9 – 10%. This is because the banks and credit card companies decided to not go as low, especially because they have raised their usual rates up to 27% and more.
6. The CCC never negotiated an interest rate in their existence. They are told by the banks and credit card companies how much the interest rate will be.
7. The CCC programs get back a percentage of what they send to the banks and credit card companies. They use to get back 15% of what they send to the banks and credit card companies, but now they receive about 8%. What they get back from the banks and credit card companies for collecting money for them is much greater than the monthly fee paid by the customer.
These are a few of the points that need to be included when researching a nonprofit CCC program.
