Today’s lowest mortgage interest rates have dropped to an all-time low as refinance rates sink to 4.25% for the 30 year fixed mortgage. On August 30, 2010 there will be many media reports stating that mortgage rates are at or very close to the all-time lows. With this being the case many American standard benefit greatly by refinancing and the current economic environment.

Over the last several weeks it has been true that almost 80% of mortgage applications have been to refinance. This will likely continue into the near future as many first-time home buyers are sitting on the sidelines and waiting for a government incentive such as a first-time home buyer tax credit.

At this point it does not look as if there will be another first-time home buyer tax credit so the majority of these mortgage applications will continue to be refinance applications. Many homeowners are finding that they could save as much as hundreds of dollars a month by refinancing to today’s lowest mortgage interest rates. It is important to remember that there are closing costs involved with this process.
