Jobless Claims Rose 2,000 to 484k – No Tier 5 Unemployment Benefits Extension for 99ers in August
Posted on | August 12, 2010 | 15 Comments
It was just reported that jobless claims unexpectedly rose 2,000 to 484,000. This is a HUGE surprise as analysts expected a fall of 14,000. The fact that there is no Tier 5 unemployment benefits extension for 99ers in August of 2010 caused many to believe that unemployment claims would drop as these individuals are unable to claim unemployment once they have exhausted their unemployment checks.
The Senate is currently on recess until September 10th, 2010 so there will be no unemployment benefits extension for these 99ers and there is quite the outrage. Unfortunately for these individuals there is very little they can do as Washington has stated many times that there would be no Tier 5 extension. They may change when the Senate returns next month but as of not his is the case.
There are many who are greatly opposed to the unemployment benefits extension but there are also millions going without financial support. President Obama recently expanded the Making Home Affordable plan to five more of the hardest hit states but this does not help those who are unemployed and cannot afford the necessities.

It will only be a matter of time before Washington will be forced to provide for the 99ers ! The group is growing at 50,000+ / week or 200,000 + / month. The question is CAN WASHINGTON ignore a large segment of the population in these economic time when companies refuse to consider the unemployed. News articles on the web have pointed out SONY to name a company that refuses to accept applications from the unemployed and a company rep from the staffing agency Adecco quoted as “Some of our clients have requested that we not refer unemployed candidates no matter how qualified” Another article mentioned that some employers think of the unemployed as “Damaged Goods and Defective”.
The unemployed are NOT ! “Damaged Goods and Defective” They are people that because of the down turn in the economy caused by Wall Street lost their employment ! It will take a several years until full employment returns, but only if corporate attitudes change and they start utilizing the tax break the government has granted to hire the unemployed.

I am OUTRAGED.
How can Congress be on “vacation” while the millions of -99er cant even feed their kids or pay rent or utilites – thank goodness its not winter yet or we could freeze.
Meanwhile we hear of 30 million BONUS checks going to executives and Congress comes back to help police and fire and teachers with help – but cant even throw a BONE to us 99ers who cant even draw SS or disability, we have NOTHING.
WRITE TO THE PRESIDENT – AND YOUR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES DEMANDING A TIER5 EXTENSION NOW !

For those old enough to remember, there used to be commercials run on TV, before cable, that showed a group of people singing a jingle with the words, “look for the union label” reminding consumers to buy products made in the U.S.
Spare us the comments about corrupt unions, blah blah and that U.S. workers demand too much money.
Our citizens have been distracted the past 3 decades dealing with “wars”, deficits, disasters, natural and political, housing bubbles, Wall Street crime, cultural decay etc. Prices have gone up, while middle class salaries have stalled or declined.
Americans have been punked by politicians and outsourcing, corporate greed and our own consumer addiction.
The result is our current economy which is manufacturing unemployment, foreclosures and despair in increasing numbers. The result is an economy that is fodder for campaigns and media spin. We are in serious trouble.
One step towards recovery involves voting at the polls and voting as consumers, with whatever spare dollars we have.
Do not patronize companies who outsource if possible, and vote all politicians who put lobbyists ahead of your family OUT of office.
And to those politicians who have demoralized their constituents by refusing to acknowledge and assist millions of American voters who are struggling, you have done great damage to your constituents and to your party.

This is why folks make sure anyone but current members up for re-election get voted out. Maybe new members will help but we know current ones are not. At some point we have to keep firing congress no matter how many years it takes to show Americans come first. If we keep sending them back for many terms some well over 20 years in congress nothing will ever change. Last time we fired most of the congress and republicans gained control after 50 years dems had it was 1994. The contract with America year. Over next 6 years we actually balanced the budget for first time in that 50 yrs. Dems just waste even more money when in control. During those 50 yrs they held congress they created what we now call and think is normal deficit spending. I am against both sides at this point if its any one in congress now. They all have to go.

The part of the stimulus plan to help homeowners is motivation for banks not to write down laon amounts for people. Why? W
August 12th, 2010 @ 10:50 am
Why? The stimulus offers to buy any bad loans if banks can get homeowner qualified at lower rates under gov program with no loan reduction. So when they do banks sell it to gov and get 100% of loan paid to them. They have no reason to lower loan amounts to match current home prices if gov will buy the bad loans at 100% on the dollar. Another bank bailout most don’t even realize. The loans are still over valued vs home prices. So many will still walk away when cannot get banks to lower loan amounts. Banks just won’t work with people over that issue.

Today’s news didn’t surprise me about a rise in foreclosures, etc. Congress took forever to get the extension passed and Americans needed it to stay afloat. I’m in Nevada, and we STILL can’t get our past checks because of their terrible system of disbursing them! I am now one of the statistics and it doesn’t look like I can save my home and my whole life’s work! After this, I am a 99er still looking for work that just isn’t there! No one seems to understand that there’s too much competition for very little work.
It’s a full blown nightmare with the banks running the show while Congress “plays” at helping the people. Even the new legislation has given banks license to “work the system” in their favor. Like MANY others, I dread what’s ahead. No one is taking it serious yet!

Even if McCain was our President, it wouldn’t matter. The ball of economic destrution was already rolling! It’s not one “leader”,or even one Party, but the whole Congress that’s blocking American progress. They are all involved in “special interests” instead of “Of the people, for the people and by the people! What happened to men of integrity and honor, who have the courage to uphold the Constitution for their country and it’s people? And most important, what will it take to get it turned around? At least 2-3 times a month, I encounter bad business ethics that are “gouging” American citizens and I think to myself “who’s minding the store?”

I read that tier v, if passed, would only be for the 16 states including Washington, D.C. where unemployment is 10% or higher. Everyone else is screwed.

The only word that I can come up with to describe what Washington has done to us is SOCIOPATHIC!
These deranged, self serving magotts will watch us starve and freeze to death, while enjoying their Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. (By the way, they will be on vacation those months as well). As far as I am concerned, there is really no reason for them to return from vacation in September anyway. Just leave us alone, you’ve already done enough of nothing.
Enjoy the view during your holidays.

How can anyone with a clear conscience blame the president or democrats for that matter for not extending unemployment benefits when the republicans adamently oppose to it ?. Each time democrats try to pass a bill to extend it they have to overcome repuclican’s filibuster which requires 60 votes. Republicans are acting with a preconceived notion the deeper our pain the more likely we will vote for them in November. They are in for a very unpleasant suprise.

The Dilapidated Propaganda Of The American Dream
In order to understand our government; we must consider the powers that be, being a 99er. I believed that President Obama would “hold true to his promise”. Nevertheless; seeing jobs by the millions being outsourced by Corporate America downsizing, greed and complasive CEO’s and politicians. This makes me often wonder. Give Me Liberty OR Give Me Death!!!!!
My fellow 99er’s our Government has signed a proclamation to your DEATH!! Moreover, our government has formally delivered its dilapidated propaganda of the American dream. However, the 99er’s are the forsaken and forgotten. Our Government commanded the 99er’s to march forward into despair because there are no jobs for us to bear.
In other words by excluding the 99er’s from the HR4213 bill. We are forced to leave behind the loves ones we once cherished, family heirlooms and treasures of what may have been. Because as a man you feel that you can no longer support their needs or hearts.
“A man without a Job” is like “a man that does not exist!!!” And without the S.3706 bill extension the 99er’s will not exist!!! But let me say this! My fellow 99’ers; The way congress thinks today is; let’s roll the dice!!! The 99’ers are not important; “let the chips fall as they may” as they did with the 911 responders.
The Banks here on Wall Street are doing business as usual reporting high earnings; high credit card interest rates. Foreclosure’s for the month of June 2010 was 1.5 million!! National suicide casualties are going unrecognized due to heartless decisions not to report them; but recent media broadcasts and articles introduce their fate. I’m a true believer in GOD. But I often pray and wonder about myself and the other 99’ers future in America today, the land of equality freedom and liberty.
Again; Congress you give the 99er’s an executive order. As forgotten bewildered broken and soldiers. We command congress to an extension to liberty and justice in the name of survival!!
Rescue the 99er’s from the depths of despair, suicide, homeless and wondering aimlessly in a barren jobless land because we need jobs. For it is your duty as men not leaders to obey and command your OATH!!! To protect serve your fellow citizen’s without discrimination or malice.
I hereby command all 99er’s to converge on Washington D.C. on 9/11/2010 in the name of survival and not to sit back as peasants to your own execution. Remember your voice and vote counts. Let Washington hear us as well…. Send your voices, thoughts, concerns and hearts. Yes We Will And Yes We CAN!!!!! Ask Yourself Why? And You Will Never Get An Answer!!
Rubin.

Actually there are two bills for a tier 5: one from congresswoman Berkley and one from Stabenow.
If they will be willing to vote on either when they return Sept 13th…your guess is as good as mine.
There are plenty of petitions on Facebook or Change.org for extending unemployment.
