While many Americans used to consider health insurance a “must have” it is now considered a luxury for the unemployed 99ers who have exhausted their Unemployment Insurance (UI). Unfortunately, with no COBRA extension or unemployment benefit extension available for these individuals it is the case that they are going without health insurance which could cause major problems down the road.
If any individual without health insurance has a major health issue it could spell disaster for the rest of their life when it comes to finances. Unfortunately, it is now the cast the those who do not receive unemployment assistance, health insurance is not affordable or available for their current situation.
Not only will this greatly hurt those 99ers but it will also hurt the overall economy as well. When these individuals cannot pay medical bills it will be a trickle down effect as doctors and hospitals will not get paid. These hospitals will reduce staff and budget. As the staff is reduced the quality of service will drop as well. When this happens it may be the case that a simple doctors appointment takes several hours when it used to only take 30 minutes.
Sadly, this could be the case sooner rather than later as some of there 99ers have nowhere to turn when it comes to health insurance. With no COBRA or unemployment benefits extension it could spell disaster for individuals and the overall economy. If you are a 99er or unemployed are you going without health insurance?

I am nearing the end of my benefits… My COBRA just ran out and I have to start making payments of 750.00 for my health insurance benefits. I don’t know if I can continue to pay. This is just awful.
