Weekly Unemployment Claims Drop to 457k But 99ers Still Seek an Extension of Unemployment Insurance (UI)
Posted on | July 29, 2010 | 82 Comments
This morning it was announced that weekly unemployment claims dropped 11,000 to 457,000. It is important to note that last weeks number was revised to 468,000. Calculated Risk points out that the four week average for unemployment claims is at 452,500 which is a slight drop from the previous 4 week moving average of 457,000.
While it is very nice to see a drop in both the weekly and four week moving average this number is still very high when looking at a historical chart of weekly unemployment and jobless claims. There are over 1.4 million Americans who have exhausted their 99 weeks of unemployment and these 99ers are seeking an extension of unemployment insurance that has yet to happen.
There has been much debate in Washington about the passing of a Tier 5 unemployment extension but those looking to cut the deficit claim that this is money that can be saved. On the other side of the fence, there are Americans who are looking for jobs in areas where the numbers just don’t add up. Nationally, there are 15 million unemployed citizens looking for 3 million jobs. Even if you have an amazing resume and the job experience needed it may be the case that there are not openings in your area. There are some who oppose the extension of unemployment insurance while there are others who realize that surviving in an economy with an unemployment rate at 9.5% is extremely hard. Let us know how you feel about the weekly unemployment numbers and an unemployment extension for 99ers.
UPDATE: The conversation is going on that these numbers are not 100% accurate, do you agree or disagree?

They need to do something about the tier 5,, I cant make my payments on house of car without it,, took a 9.00hr job part time, but still falling further behind,, working on home loan modification but they said since I dont have any more unemployment they may not offer it now,, the 9.00 hr job does cover enough of the payment.. If I lose my house, it will be hard to go get an apartment due to my bad credit now because I stopped paying credit cards 1 yr ago,, what to do

Has anybody noticed that the 600K + census workers that were hired in April and laid off in late June have never surfaced on the unemployment numbers??? Is this odd, or is it me. The numbers are a sham, but our wonderful main stream media has not reported an increase in the unemployment numbers. Did ALL of the census workers find employment after working that job? I hardly think so!!!

I dont get it. i worked for 18 years and lost my job due to downsizing. why downsizing? ill tell you why. congress got paid off by corporations to send our jobs over seas closing many plants in michigan. they are the ones responsible for this. its their fault they need to fix it. i dont care how many tiers it requires you cant take away someones life and expect everything to work out. i lost my home my car and i cant even get a job to get the money up for moving cost for school. im stuck at my parents who are also about to loose it all. my personal opinion.. the november election doesnt matter. were not voting for them anyways. but i think we need to have them arrested for financial terrorism. their traitors to the people of the united states. they caused more damage with their little bribe stunt of outsourcing then any terrorism attack in the history of the usa. they broke homes they closed buisness’s they put people into the streets with familys they took away many of our abilitys to get a paycheck. if your an illegal immigrant you can get a ton more help then an american who has worked all their lives and paid into the system. ya we need a tier 5.. no they have no right to say no you dont. yes they all belong in prison. and finally no.. they do not represent the america that i believe in and love.

Of course the claims dropped because
99ERS WERE NOT ABLE TO CLAIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Geez stupid Congress

If they don’t include an EXTENSION FOR THE 99ers and FINANCIAL HELP with COBRA then they have left a WHOLE BIG BUNCH OF AMERICANS CITIZENS in a crunch. We can’t pay our monthly bills so we surely can’t afford $400.00 for Cobra health insurance. We are even at a point being homeless with nothing to eat, that we have to pay for city transportation to find a job while our spouse and children live in the car.
Also, I think that it is really sad we are giving money to Mexico, Haiti, Pakistan and other countries while our own citizens are out of work due to a recession in their own country and when they turn on the news they hear; Congress approved XXXX billions to go out of the country to help others. I just heard they approved 7.5 BILLION to go to Pakistan to assist with their economy and they won’t even help their own country.
WHY CAN’T WE TAKE CARE OF OUR OWN PEOPLE BEFORE TAKING CARE OF ANYONE ELSE. IS AMERICA’S PRIORITIES THAT SCREWED UP?

And over a week later where is our unemployment checks in Virginia?? Virginia is saying nothing at all except..information is limited..What?? thats BS cause some states are alreay getting paid..like New York and Pa. These reports are just a mind game..lobbyists own the government..they have long ago bought Congress, the Senate, the State Houses, they have the judges in their back pockets. Forget the polititions they’re just there to make you think you have a choice, you don’t. They control the media you get to see everyday, like the above report. Telling you what to buy and what to believe. It’s one big club folks and were not in it. Of course there are fewer claims, there’s a couple million 99er’s who have now fallen out of the system. You would think the DOL would keep stats on that, they do with everything else. They try and paint a rosey picture out there but it stinks like a rotten sunflower.
July 29th, 2010 @ 11:45 am
like kiddingme said..there would be double the claims for unemployment if the 99ers were able to claim..so the unemployment rate is way higher than they say it is. i would love to see what the real number is..
July 29th, 2010 @ 11:49 am

Amazing how headlines are always touting how everything is getting better, but if you read into the story its usually bad news. How come almost all of them are arranged this way? I honestly think they all believe we are ignorant. SICK of all the PROPOGANDA!
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:12 pm
GIVE ME A BREAK YOU HAVE OVER A MILLION PEOPLE THATS NOT WORKING AND LOOKING FOR WORK,BUT THEY SAY IT GETTING BETTER I DON’T SEE IT MAYBE SOMEBODY COULD SHOW ME,PASS THE TIER 5 TO HELP THE AMERICAN PEOPLE JUST LIKE THEY HELP YOU GET THE JOB THAT YOU HAVE NOW YOU ALL NEED TO THINK ABOUT THE NOVEMBER ELECTION.THEY NEED YOUR HELP.
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:32 pm
The numbers will definitely go up within the next few weeks.. Reason for that is all of the unemployed who lost their benefits as of June 2, and still continuing, are not part of the unemployment equation as we are considered not looking for work which is a complete joke.. As soon as the almost 3 million people start to get their unemployment back over the next few weeks, watch as the numbers go way up.
I definitely, and hope millions other vote for any1 but a rebulican this November as if they regain control of the House and Senate you can bet your last peeny they will not renew the unemplyment at the end of November. I truly hope people unemployed like myself realize this. They won’t even bring it up for a vote if they regain control. These effing criminals have utterly destroyed this once great nation all for money to go into their wallets while they spit on every single American.
They have no problem with extending the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest, at a cost of 700 BILLION which won’t be paid for and just added to the deficit. Yet, they will stop any money from going into the hands of Americans. Heck we just gave Pakistan 7.5 BILLION, and yet their own government is aiding the Taliban. Another slap in the face, course that slap goes into every single VETS face and does the government give a crap, hell no they dont.. Again, as long as their walets and bank accounts keep getting millions why should they care.
These same crooks are responsible for NAFTA and CAFTA, both should be repealed due to the huge unfair trade with other countries.. Ever wonder why companies leave along with millions of jobs?? Well when big companies can go out of the country and pay workers slave wages, then turn around and sell their products back into this country they pay “Tarrifs”, or taxes.. Well when the tarrifs are pratically pennies of course the jobs will continue to leave.. Untill the trade actually becomes equal, then things will never change.
Course, another notion that doesn’t seem to get any news attention, does anyone see a problem with our government having the RUSSIAN millitary now in this country aiding local law enforcement?? Are the crooks in office afraid that USA military won’t fire or may hesitate to fire on American citizens?? Lastly, is anyone else wondering why there are prison camps being set up all across the country, staffed but no prisioners??? Kinda makes ya wonder what their really up to with their New World Order..
Wake up people, before the nightmare becomes a whole lot worse…
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:42 pm
Hmmm….15 million unemployed to fill only 3 million jobs? I know our government is not very smart but any moron can subtract those numbers. It’s like trying to fit a square block into a round hole…doesn’t fit no matter how hard you force it. Maybe they are hoping that the other 12 million people will just die off or something.
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:43 pm
It is as plain as the nose on your face. We are and have been in a depression. 15% unemployment is a big number. If you factor in all the other things like part time and (and I love this one) people who have stopped looking for work ( how do they count them anyway?) Is there a form to fill out to show you have stopped looking for work? LOL . Anyway, the number is more like 22% unemployed. They only count the newbies that file. From what I understand they don’t even count the people on federal extensions to be part of those numbers quoted in the article. The government with media backing is once again pushing the lie. I mean who are we kidding 11k less and we are supposed to shout for joy after loosing 8 million? What are these people using for brains. Oh well Obama won’t rest until we are all employed again hahahahahahaahahhaahahahahah… I think he said that from the golf course.
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:44 pm
We need tier 5 to survive. Unemployment assistance should not be decided by an arbitrary date determined by the powers that be, but when there are enough jobs for folks that want to work. Where the heck is all the unemployment insurance money that employers were paying to the government on the behalf of all the working folks? Most likely spent along with the Social Security money. Isn’t that stealing? I think most folks on unemployment would rather work. I know my husband, a 99er, would. But being out of work for 2 years and now 64, the job he did is now in India. Whose going to hire him? We’ve been together 40 years and been through tough economies before, this is the worst and being older we aren’t going to have the means to build back what we’ve lost. These are our golden years? I think they are going to be rusty years ahead.
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:45 pm
I cannot believe that I have worked all these years and now that I need help I cannot get it but the lazy people that sit on there ass and collect SSI and Welfare benefits are okay and some of them have not worked a lick in there life, some of them so not even deserve the disability they are getting they should be checked out every year to make sure that they are really disabled and quit taking from us that deserve the money. Low Lifes
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:47 pm
They’re not included because you need to be employed for 2 calendar periods to file for unemployment insurance. They are unemployed but no one cares about them. Much like how no one cares about us. I’ve been doing what I have to do to keep a roof over my head, and food in my stomach.
July 29th, 2010 @ 12:50 pm
Congress and the media aren’t ignorant, they know full well that the unemployment “numbers” don’t reveal the whole truth. Frankly, they don’t want the whole truth revealed due to its negative impact on Wall Street. Wall Street runs the economy these days, not Main Street. Its mentioned about 600k census workers and the lack of 99er input into the unemployment numbers……well, the powers that be knew full well that the census workers applying for unemployment would offset the number of exhaustees falling off. The status quo in regards to the percentage of unemployed would stay the same or slightly drop. The guys behind the curtain got EXACTLY what they were planning for…..an America which thinks the unemployment crisis is over, at least its off the front page, and now the “Haves” can all go back to enjoying their vacations before the “Holiday” season cranks up and the economic numbers can be spun into a positive web of deceit once again. The whole cycle continues as long as the media are making millions off the stock market. (think advertisers) Ahhhh, isn’t “Corporatism” grand!
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:04 pm
This is crap, our Government are lairs and cheaters, they play us for fools!! They say we are broke, they make the tier 1-4 wait for months for a rightly extension. They haven’t approve a justly tier 5 because again they say we are so in debt, then 3 days after extending the unemployment extension they approve a 59 BILLION!!! emergency spending bill, the bulk of which would go to Afghan troop buildup.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtU78drnTX8 This is a joke. What happened to Obama ‘bring the troops home’ promise.!!SIGN MY PETITIONS ‘VOTE OUT THE REPUBLICANS IN NOVEMBER’!!http://humanrights.change.org/petitions/view/vote_out_the_republicans_in_november and Obama must also go!!
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:09 pm
I believe their figures are incorrect!!!!
11,000 is most likely the unemployed that has just fallen off the radar and don’t count any more. If the ones who have lost their benefits were included the amount would be staggering.
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:45 pm
the numbers drop because they go the people who gets dropped off because they can not claim anything so they say the numbers drop bunch of bull shit
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:49 pm
the unemployment numbers drop because of the people who can.t apply for anything any longer, me i am collecting my guns and water and going to barricade myself in my home
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:50 pm
Please keep this conversation going and let us know if you think this numbers are accurate. We will post an update later this evening or tomorrow morning
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:54 pm
Leave it to the news to delete perfectly decent and truthful messages. I typed a entire page, no cussing or anything and this site deleted it.. lol, what truth hurts. This whole unemplyment number is a joke, wait untill the 3 million people who got spit on by our government starts to get our unemployment again. Then the 3 million will be added into the unemployment equation..
Gee, this site gonna delete this message to?.. Guess, just like more and more OF OUR RIGHTS are being taken away guess the media thinks they have the right to deny FREEDOM OF SPEECH!.
July 29th, 2010 @ 1:59 pm
Not only do the 99ers not show up in those numbers but these are just NEW claims. The unemployment rate will only drop when more people join the ranks of the 99ers. At that time they are no more a part of the unemployment problem. Now the homeless problem is another story, and the haves can just ignore that problem.
Come to 99ersupport.proboards.com or change.org and help make a difference.

We just updated the comments, is it up now?

It’s a sad day for Hard Working Americans that have been so busy just trying to work to get ahead to be left in the dust. We Americans have been so riddled. Like chickens with our heads cut off we have become a nation of workaholics – so caught up with taking care of our families, supplying medical for our families, putting groceries on the table, paying our taxes, insurances, fines, license’s, utilities, phone, repairs, both parents must work, and the list goes on that we haven’t had anytime to keep on top of the situation the government, big business, banks, and Wall Street have put us in. We are so busy surviving we haven’t had the time nor the energy to develop a check system or have any contol over what our government is doing to us. There’s a method to that madness – Keep everyone running around going crazy not knowing what is really going on because they are so riddled every day with so much stuff then you are in complete control! Alot of people manage people that way because it works for them and in the meantime they are pulling the rug out from under you. This is the kind of government we have now. They have alot to cover up but now The People of this country through no fault of their own have time but no money and they are finally seeing what is going on but now it is too late for many. Everything happens for a reason. This country has been riding high for a long time and now the very people we have voted into office are showing us their true colors that is that they are greedy, liars, and that they really don’t care about American People in this country and it has been this way for a long time. We are afraid of the government the government is not afraid of us. This is the stuff that revolutions are made of. Every dog has its day and now we are seeing ours.We spend trillions and the lives our precious sons and daughters fighting undeclared wars that only fuel the greed of our leaders and the rich. We don’t fight wars about principals, they just want us to believe that, they are fought for money and control. It’s disgraceful to see what is happening to the citizens of this country as a result of greed in the highest degree. Then when the people need help we are lazy, drugged up, couch potatoes that are spoiled. Nothing could be further from the truth. We have worked so hard that that is all we know we don’t really even know how to enjoy life as it should be lived because like mice or rats in a maze we are constantly on the run to survive. We Americans need to reevaluate how we want to live now and make the changes necessary to make that happen. We need new leaders that work for us not special interests. Come November we need to start making some real changes. We don’t have a lot of choice we need a new kind of leaders. I pray we get it1
July 29th, 2010 @ 2:59 pm
The unemployment numbers are not accurate. There are millions of unemployed and more to follow. There is no recovery and never has been.
Our government only cares about themselves and what will be good for them. Everyone remember this when election time comes! VOTE ALL THESE FOOLS OUT!
July 29th, 2010 @ 3:00 pm
I want everyone to remember one important thing above all else. BOTH sides of the government are guilty. they spend more time insulting the other side then they do at fixing the problem. its like at any election we have. they act like little brats talking garbage about the other guy and telling us a bunch of crap they wont do. i liked that saying.. Remember in November. well.. they say us 99 ers dont count huh. come november.. not 1 single person in congress should be voted for. they are all responsible for this.
REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!!!!!
NO 1 STAYS!!
July 29th, 2010 @ 3:14 pm
NO they are not counting us 99ers because if they did they would not be able to say unemployment is dropping they are just counting the ones that are getting a check how about they count all the 99ers also try that why dont they
July 29th, 2010 @ 3:33 pm
I say pass the Fair tax bill AND the tier 5 bill. That way the 99ers can use the unemployment money to catch up on back bills and use the rebate from the Fair tax to start really spending money. The more people we get to buy stuff the busier the business’ will be the more people they will hire, then more people will spend money and so on. The problem is we got so way behind that most money people are getting are not being used to buy stuff. They are being used to pay off bills, to pay for house/rent etc. But if we pass both then it will help people catch up AND spend more.
July 29th, 2010 @ 3:38 pm
Why would you leave the 99ers out –we all know there arent enough jobs so the extension makes sense–what makes them any different–do they think there are more jobs available for the 99ers– they are in the same boat with anyone looking they have just looked longer– its not fair or logical to treat them any different and borders on discrimination–cant wait for nov. to clean house
July 29th, 2010 @ 3:42 pm
So if they are NOT counting any of us that have reached the 99 mark how can these figures be accurate. I know they send information to your employer to fill out on when you started back to work “IF YOU FIND A JOB” so they REALLY are not counting of us 99er’s.
July 29th, 2010 @ 4:00 pm
IF THE NUMBER OF 99ER’S WERE ADDED INTO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ARE CURRENTLY UNEMPLOYED, THE NUMBERS WOULD SKYROCKET. IT IS TIME FOR AN EXTENSION FOR US 99ER’S WHO HAVE NOT COLLECTED SINCE MARCH. LET’S GET ON THE BALL!!!!
July 29th, 2010 @ 4:31 pm
Yes those numbers are wrong. I’ve read that the real estimate of unemployed is more like 30 million and another 6.5 million are 99er’s!
I’ve heard that if you continue to claim your weekly benefits whether your entitled or not will keep you on the roles to be counted.
How come with all of us emailing, calling and faxing our government we still have not gotten a bill passed for us?!
59 billion for the funding of a war! A war to protect their interests in oil and trillions of dollars in natural minerals not to rid these countries of terrorists!!! Not one word of protest to ask where that money will come from to offset the deficit!!!
We are at a crossroad in this country. We are in depression the likes this country has never seen!
God bless us all!!!!
July 29th, 2010 @ 4:36 pm
To Dee’s Comment- AMEN to that!
July 29th, 2010 @ 4:41 pm
Its crazy. They don’t care there bills being paid. We need tier 5, 6,7 what ever it takes. GET IT DONE TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 29th, 2010 @ 4:44 pm
To the People Responsible for the USA’s Economic Disaster,
I just want to say,
Thank you.
Thank you for making me realize that I was a gluttonous consumer, who should have horded my money when I had it instead of trying to live up to a false set of standards that do not apply to people such as myself –The Working Poor.
Thank you for making me realize that I can cook a meal at home much cheaper than going to a restaurant, that reading a good book from the library is cheaper than going to the movies, that using laundry detergent sparingly is just as good as using expensive floor cleaners, that washing windows and appliances with water, apple cider vinegar, and elbow grease- is cheaper than buying the name brand products, and that watering down dish detergent really does stretch it.
Thank you for making me not want to ever purchase anything produced out of the USA, for reusing plastic wrap, and using washcloths instead of paper towels. Thank you for making me understand that no matter how much wrinkle cream or hair dye I buy, no one is going to hire a 54 year old woman, so there’s no point buying those products.
Thank you for not having to keep up with trendy fashions. Thank you for making me block out the word vacation, and thank you for not having to worry about buying Christmas, birthday, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day , or Anniversary gifts, or eating or buying anything special for Valentine’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July , Labor Day, or Thanksgiving.
Thank you for pitting family members and friends against one another-one who is unemployed and one who has a job, one who is a Republican and one who is a Democrat (This way we will never unite).
And thank you for the opportunity to do a debt consolidation, so now I can neither get a credit card for the next five years, nor apply for a small business loan that is suppose to save the economy and people like me.
Thank you mostly for making me understand that politicians, both Republican and Democrats, have clearly defined to me, the meaning of social class stratification. (According to Wikipedia-The term most commonly relates to the socio-economic concept of class, involving the “classification of persons into groups based on shared socio-economic conditions … a relational set of inequalities with economic, social, political and ideological dimensions.”[1]) and where exactly I fit in compared to those nicely groomed, well fed, medically covered, and smartly dressed politicians.
Ps-Also, Thank you for helping me understand that eating cheap white bread and hot dogs will probably kill me sooner than eating expensive whole grain breads and organic food; and therefore, I will be doing a service to our country and the social security office.
July 29th, 2010 @ 5:15 pm
The whole thing with Unemployment Claim number going down is insane. When you reach the magic 99ers level, you can no longer claim because there is nothing to claim for. So you fall off the claim count.
By this logic, since there is no tier extention on the horizon, unemployment claims will go lower and lower as more people reach the magic 99. Does this mean UNEMPLOYMENT has gone down?!?!?
If somone would cross reference the number amount the claims for unemployment that have gone down with the number that either welfare claims have increase, or how the number of people with added to the workforce has increased, then we’d know what is happening.
July 29th, 2010 @ 5:37 pm
I worked for 40 years, now I’m 61 and feel this country that I fought for as an Infantry Soldier, in Viet Nam 40 years ago is turning it’s back. I am a registered Republican, but it will be a cold day in HELL… before I support any Republican again…..For anyone to say that I’m not trying to find work because on the stipend called Unemployment is both offensive and insensitive. a Republican President and Congress got us in this mess,,,and now you turn a deaf ear…Shameful
July 29th, 2010 @ 5:52 pm
This article addresses FIRST time unemployment claims [457,000] and has nothing to do with 99ers falling off the radar.
Assuming there are 3 to 4.5 million 99ers, then the stated unemployment rate will be understated by 2% – 3%, exactly what the empty suits in DC want.
I am a 61 year old 99er and
don’t see any relief in the poisened atmosphere in Washington
July 29th, 2010 @ 5:58 pm
A ten percent unemployment rate can hve an effect upon as many as 75 million Americans. One unemployed worker has a household of between 1 to 4 or 5 persons. Multiply 10 million by 3 to 5 persons and you have 30 to 40 million people. Add into the equation another variable of small business owners and you now have another 20 to 30 million people affected. This leaves a number of close to 75 million Americans in hardship as a result of ten percent unemployment. As they say in physics; for every action there is a reaction and sometimes the reaction can be worse than the action.

I wish someone would create a website that lists the voting track records on unemployment and job related issues. At least a list of those who voted against the last extension so we can forever remember their names and truly vote them out. It needs to be made easily accessible to the unemployed public. And it’s not just the unemployed that will vote them out, it’s those who can relate, who have been unemployed. The families of those unemployed and the friends and people who care about their loved ones who had to suffer because of the senators votes. Their names need to be spread all across the internet pointing out who voted against it and who is likely to vote against an extension for the 99ers. We need to quit letting them get off easy and hold them accountable for all the suffering they are causing.

With all the voting and not voting to extend the unemployment insurance, it left the citizens of the United States with home loans, car payments, utility bills, etc…(BEHIND). Often a poor credit rating results from circumstances that are beyond your control. The loss of a job or high medical bills often leads to late payments, even bankruptcy. Still a bank or other financial institution may reason that a solid financial history is a qualifying factor for an employee who has control over substantial sums of money.
However, the same argument cannot be made when a credit check serves only as a kind of character screening. Some states have now recognized the unfairness in this by adopting laws that require a direct relationship to the job before a credit check is made.
Washington state and Oregon, for example, say an employee or job applicant’s credit history must be related to the job. Hawaii has also passed such a law, and similar laws have been introduced in other states. In California, a bill requiring that a credit check be skills-related made it to the Governor’s desk in 2008 and again in 2009. However, the bills were vetoed by Governor Schwarzenegger each time.
In addition, as of this writing, a bill captioned the Equal Employment for All Act (HR 3149) is making its way through the U.S. House of Representatives. Should HR 3149 become law, potential employers who want to access an applicant’s credit report would have to show that credit history is related to the open position.
Whatever it takes the 99er’s need another tier 5,6,7 until the unemployment rate goes completely to a comfort zone. The U.S. needs to stop helping other countries, they need to take care of their own, plain and simple.

I’VE BUST MY ASS FOR 29 YEARS, WITH
MONEY COMING OUT OF MY EARNINGS
FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE WHO HAVE NOT WORK A DAY IN THEIR LIFE I DARE
THOSE RICH ASS PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON TO CALL ME LAZY IAM PROUD TO BE A 99ER IVE EARN IT BUT
WE NEED HELP AS WELL IF THEY HAD TO WALK IN OUR SHOES THEN AND ONLY THEN THE CHANGE WILL COME.
July 29th, 2010 @ 8:46 pm
There has been much debate in Washington about the passing of a Tier 5 unemployment extension but those looking to cut the deficit claim that this is money
that can be saved.
Okay so what this means is congress feels giving away billions to other countries and pork projects takes priority over helping victims of Wallstreet greet that cost us jobs? Every time they say save money or we cannot afford this that just shows how little they care about the worse off Victims. Amazing they can actually try to tell us no money.
July 29th, 2010 @ 9:11 pm
Yeah the unemployment numbers are droping. When us 99ers quit recieving benifits our unemployed status fell out of the system. If you dont get benifits you dont get counted in the total number unemployed.

You’ve covered it all. Thank you.
July 29th, 2010 @ 10:45 pm
Since congress (no capital letter) has decided NOT to help us, the 99ers.
They were supposed to represent us, then we have to vote EVERY INCUMBENT out of office, perhaps the newcomers will have more conscience that they work for WE the people.
July 29th, 2010 @ 11:50 pm
@Puzzled, kudos to you, well said!!!
I would love to challenge the U.S. Government and Mainstream Media to publish TRUE unemployment numbers, counting EVERY unemployed person in this country whether they have exhausted benefits or not. I believe the results would be staggering.
July 29th, 2010 @ 11:57 pm
Puzzled, we will have to do more research on HR 3149 and see if we can post a follow up article; do you have any websites that have helped you with information on this bill? Thanks!
July 30th, 2010 @ 12:11 am
do you really think they are going to read these post we are putting up here no they are not we are waisting our time writing about it on these blogs. we need to call and write and email them so they can hear us…..
July 30th, 2010 @ 12:15 am
With the advancements of technology, I am quite certain that some of them do read blogs and Internet articles. With that being said, you are right, the unemployed need to take action and contact their representatives to make certain that something is done. It has to start somewhere.

Good Morning:
My age is 62.
I’m curious about the ages of the 99ers. I have a suggestion for all of us who post. Let’s put our age first before our comment.
Good Luck to all of us.
July 30th, 2010 @ 9:08 am
Recently one of the supervisors from a local unemployment office was interviewed by a local tv station. Unemployment in our county is 11.1% but this gentleman said that if you count the people who have exhausted their benefits and extensions and all the people who didn’t qualify in the first place, the actual number was closer to 33%. That number is probably closer to the truth. They can’t afford to extend UE benefits but they can certainly give tax breaks to the rich. But where is the money for food stamps, medical care, federal housing and other assistance programs going to come from.
We are all a breath away from being on the streets and these politicians don’t give a damn. Well, they will care in November. The unemployed won’t be the only ones voting these people out of office, our friends and families will also speak for us.
Everyone in Washington is so concerned about the unemployment numbers that they haven’t taken into consideration the increase in suicide, crime rate, homeless, domestic violence and people on public assistance . These numbers are going to skyrocket if we don’t get help. Where is the money going to come from to fund all the programs to help when we are on the street? There certainly aren’t enough homeless shelters to house all of the 99ers. They need to step up to the plate and do the right thing. Take care of our own for a change and and an additional tier.

Why cant the democracts and republicans work things out together? They are working for the better of the American people right? Ive got my own bill to be passed since they cant figure it out on thier own.Take the democractic stimmulus money and the republican tax break money pool it into my bill which is called the over 45 years old and long term unemployed bill.Any employer willing to hire these unemployed workers will get a tax credit of free employment payroll for one year capped at 60000 dollars paid for out of the pool. If they can bail out wall street big banks auto industries give tax credits for hybrids energy efficient homes new home buyers wy cant they pass my bill for our hurting Americans?

It has fallen because at 100 weeks + one is not counted.
We need a tier 5 Now not in November
What do the 99ers have to do to get a tier 5 ? Spill blood ?
July 30th, 2010 @ 11:03 am
99er – age 58 – we have a national crisis going on with unemployment for the last two years and just now receiving “some” attention! People have worked hard, been loyal to their employers — I personally went through the last five years of company merging, company bankrupt, loss in benefits and no increase in salary = just added six additional positions’ responsibilities and added nationwide corporate travel to my personal credit cards for months at a time to be rewarded by layoff – no severence, nada – AFTER 21 years ! Where is our heart and soul for fellow countrymen and their families???
May God have mercy… Tiers 5 – 6 – ? until the need and TRUE statistics are revealed.
July 30th, 2010 @ 11:44 am
If congress would stop giving billions to other countries and pork projects then I can by into the argument we cannot afford tier 5. Congress show us Americans in need come before help to other countries. The number of people with no UI checks over 99 weeks is going to keep growing. I see no way UI % comes down below 9% in hardest hit states well into 2011. Until it does just not enough jobs to avoid increases of 99ers well into next year. So help them before other countries get 1 dime of tax dollars.

Believe in GOD not the Government this is part of their plan for “The New World Order” they know what they’re doing.

OFCOARSE THE NUMERS ARE DOWN FOR UNEMPLOYMENT THE 99ERS ARE NO LONG GETTING BENEIFTS. PLEASE HELP US.
July 30th, 2010 @ 4:55 pm
Yes this going to become national tragedy. The unemployment numbers are complete utter non-sense. If you count those that have fallen off unemployment and those that did not qualify in the first place (1099 workers or workers that didn’t qualify quarterly) the numbers would be around 30-40%. These are the numbers that they don’t want Wall Street to know since it would cause widespread panic and sell-off. That is the true numbers but they hide them like the plague. The other skewed number is that I keep hearing the politicians saying that there is only 1 job for every 5 applicants. What a joke! I’m sure all of you know that is complete non-sense also. I recently finally got a call back from a potential employer that I had found online. He told me he had run the ad that morning at 8:00 am and by 11:30 am he had received 213 resumes. He stated that because of that he picked me out of the first 20 for an interview. That is the true numbers. I have 3 more checks left on my fourth tier. After that I don’t know what I will do. I know if I’m still around in November I will vote out as many crooked heartless politicians as I can. I am not holding my breath for tier 5 for I know that it will not pass. Just get ready!
What happens when 20+ million unemployed people and tens of millions who receive some form of government assistance each month suddenly receive no money? How safe will America be? How angry will people become? Can you imagine long lines of people standing outside Walmart begging for food? Can you imagine being robbed at gun point for groceries as you exit a food store? Can you imagine gangs holding “gated communities” hostage within their gates until their financial demands are met? Can you image hospitals and doctors offices closed because there is no insurance and people cannot pay actual costs? When the government tells a huge number of people they will no longer receive government assistance, what choices will they have for survival? Consider Greece again (even though there has been a temporary respite for Greece by the European Union, the drama is not over – keep an eye on it).

THE PRESIDENT AND THE CONGRESS SEE WE NEED AN EXTENTION AND WE ARE STRUGGLING THEY DONT CARE. WHY BECAUSE THEY HAVE MONEY THEIR BILLS ARE PAID. WOW THEY CAN EVEN TAKE VACATIONS. THEY SLEEP AND EAT IN PEACE EVERYDAY. WHERE WE AS 99′S HAVE TO SCRAPE UP MONEY AND FOOD EVERYDAY. MAYBE THEY WILL HAVE A HEART AND FEEL OUR PAIN. WE ARE NOT ASKING FOR A LIFETIME OF UNEMPLOYMENT BUT WE WENT FROM A RECESSION TO A DEPRESSION. IF YOU UNDERSTAND OUR NEEDS THEN HELPS US JUST ALITTLE BIT LONGER PLEASE

A Tier 5 would be nice, but here in Texas, we dont even have A TIER 4 and the WorkForce doesnt even TELL YOU THAT if you dont ask!!! This whole time ive been praying & waiting for this extension only to find out i dont even GET IT, meaning i didnt even get to a 99 weeks, i got to 82 weeks before i was cut off in June. so beware if you live in Texas and think youre getting a check because ITS NOT coming if youre at Tier 4. Congress has basically decided that the only job options left for us 99ers is to either sell drugs, rob banks, or do something GOD will probably send you to hell for….GOD Help Us All…

Good Morning:
I am desperately looking for a work-at-home job which involves assembly or stuffing envelopes. Does anyone know or are you doing anything like that is not a scam and know for sure that it pays.
I am desperate. My husband is handicapped and both of us are trying to do this at home. I am 62 and I am a 99er.
Have a good day.
