If you are looking to get a return on the money you have in your savings or checking account you will want to seek a high yield savings account. There are many US banks that are currently offering high interest rates on checking and savings accounts. It might be wise to start at the community bank level when you do your research
There are some community banks spread throughout the country that are offering interest rates higher than 4% on a checking account. While this is not every bank there are banks out there that can help you get a very attractive interest rate on a bank account that you open today.
It is important to understand that not all community banks will allow you to apply for this type of account. If you do not live in a specific region of the country you will not have the ability to submit an application. This is why it would be wise to start in your local area when you do your research.
There are some restrictions when it comes to getting a high interest rate on these checking account. You will need to use an ATM or debit card at least 10 times a month and you must have at least one electronic transfer into the account. If you can meet these requirements you will get a very high yield.
