Today’s Lowest Mortgage Interest Rates – 30 Year Rates at 5% in Late March

Posted on | March 27, 2010 | 2 Comments

Today’s lowest mortgage interest rates are around 5% for the 30 year fixed mortgage.  For the 15 year fixed mortgage rates are around 4.3%.  Over the last few days we have seen the 10 year treasury rate yield move much higher which has pushed mortgage rates up to the psychological 5% mark.

There are many Americans who have benefitted from the current low interest rate environment but that could be coming to an end.  The Federal Reserve Bank plans to stop purchasing mortgage backed securities at the end of March and the 10 year treasury rate yield is moving much higher.

These are two signs that 30 year fixed mortgage rates could move up to 6% or higher.  If you have been considering locking in to a low mortgage interest rate then it may be wise to take action today.  The longer you wait the more of a chance there is that mortgage rates could be much higher.

Almost all mortgage lenders are still advertising low rates but as state earlier, it might be wise to take action today.  By contacting some of these lenders you will get a better idea as to what mortgage interest rate you will qualify for.
