Federal Government Credit Card Debt Relief Plan – Credit CARD Act of 2010 Helps

Posted on | March 13, 2010 | No Comments

The Federal Government credit card debt relief plan was created to help Americans better understand their credit card debt rights and what it takes to get out of debt.  Recently, the Credit CARD Act of 2010 was signed in an attempt to get credit card companies to also help with educating Americans on how to get out of debt and how long it will take to pay off a particular credit card by making a certain payment.

On future credit card statements Americans are going to see much more detailed information.  One thing that will be a major difference is credit card hold will be able to clearly see how long it will take them to get out of debt on that particular credit card with a certain payment.  If you make a payment for $500 a month it will explain when that card will be completely paid off.

The Credit CARD Act also mandates that credit card companies must give borrowers a 45 day notice before their interest rate will increase.  Hopefully this will give cardholders a forewarning so they can adjust their spending habits and hopefully pay off the credit card before the interest rate increase.

President Obama and his staff have worked very hard to make sure that Americans understand more about personal finances.  The Credit CARD Act is just another step in helping you get out of debt quicker.  It would be wise to take advantage of the free Federal Government websites so you can better understand what your rights are.
