Vacant Homes in America Continue to Rise

Posted on | February 3, 2009 | 2 Comments

The number of vacant homes in America is quite astonishing.  If we could find a way to start filling some of these vacant homes to help the supply/demand imbalance, we would slowly start to see the road to recovery in the housing market.  The number of vacant homes doesn’t have to decrease, but should at least start to stabilize.

    Housing recovery?

House prices are obscenely high and have been for some time, that’s the core problem.

Too many people’s idea of recovery is home equity increasing inexorably again. NO, recovery should involve sane prices that are not predecated on ever increasing value that is unsustainable, and a tax structure that does discourages individuals who can afford it pouring every penny into investment properties for rent that further drives up prices.

Paying a million bucks for a modest family home is a collective choice, it does not actually HAVE to be like that. It in fact leads to enormous social problems.
