Mortgage Interest Rates Today February 21 – Fixed Rates Mixed
Posted on | February 21, 2010 | No Comments
Mortgage interest rates today, February 21st, 2010, are mixed early today. With this being a Sunday you can expect very light volume as all financial markets are closed and most financial institutions are closed. Fixed mortgage rates have been very low for quite some time and at the present time we are seeing the 30 year fixed mortgage rate at 4.95% while the 15 year fixed mortgage rate is at 4.28%.
Last week we saw the Fed increase the discount rate which pushed treasury yields higher. Unfortunately this might be a sign of things to come in the very near future. If treasury yields continue to move higher you can expect to see the 30 year fixed mortgage rate move up, possibly all the way to 6%.
With this being the case it might be wise to lock in to a low rate today to avoid these troubles. It is not enjoyable trying to rush a mortgage application in while interest rates are headed higher. There are many mortgage lenders that are currently advertising low rates so make sure to contact them as soon as possible.
