Mortgage Interest Rates December 21 – Little Change Early Today

Posted on | December 21, 2009 | No Comments

Mortgage interest rates for December 21st, 2009 are seeing very little change.  Today the 30 year fixed mortgage rate is up slightly to 4.76% while the 15 year fixed mortgage rate is unchanged at 4.2%.  The 5/1 ARM is down to 3.74%.  It is still very early, prior to 9:30 am eastern, in the week so it is not unusual to see little change and very light volume.

With this being the last shopping week before Christmas we fully expect all financial market to be quiet.  Markets are still open but the interest in the markets will not pick up again until 2010 unless some very big news is announced.  Look for some very interesting movements when 2010 rolls around as many new government plans and regulations are likely to be released.

The increase in mortgage applications in 2010 has a possibility to be quite enormous.  If mortgage interest rates continue to remain near historically low levels there is a chance we could see the beginning of a Refi Boom.  No one knows what will happen but we can all hope for continued low mortgage interest rates.
