Unemployment Benefits Extension; Will the Senate and House Pass it in November?
Posted on | November 3, 2009 | 81 Comments
UPDATE: Unemployment Benefits Extension Passes in the Senate, 98-0
The unemployment benefits extension has been much talked about in Washington and on Main Street. The question that almost every single unemployed American wants answered is “will the Senate and House pass the unemployment benefits extension in November?” In October, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid motioned that an unemployment extension be passed; it was by a vote of 331-83. Subsequently the Senate Republicans objected to the Senate Majority Leader’s motion.
At this point Reid filed a cloture vote which passed 87 to 13 last week. After the cloture vote passes the Republicans have 30 hours of time to debate the issue. To make the “deal” more attractive Democrats added an extension of the first time home buyers tax credit as well as tax breaks for businesses. At this time Reid filed for cloture again and the vote concluded Monday, November 2nd in which it passed 85-2.
At this point the Republicans still have 30 more hours of debate time. This will take the Senate into late Tuesday night. If Reid invokes another cloture vote another 30 hours will be added which will put us into Thursday morning at the earliest for a vote on the bill. At this point over 185,000 people have lost their unemployment benefits. Only time will tell if the extension will happen in November.
UPDATE: We have had a great response to the new website Unemployed and Trying. If you would like to submit a story or reason as to why unemployment benefits should be extended please email them to jwojdylo@subprimeblogger.com. We will gladly post them on the new site. Please make the comments free of profanity or any direct insults.

The following is an email,I sent to Jon Kyl today. My benefits extension ran out in September.I was denied food stamps yesterday. This bastard will probably be out for dinner and drinks, courtesy of health insurance lobbyist tonight.I hope he burns in hell for an eternity.
Your ignorance to the suffering of American people is unconscionable. I hope the people of your state remember your heartless dithering and obstructionist meandering come election time. When that time comes, I will make my way to your state to work for whomever runs against you.You are a blithering idiot who is making himself and his party’s demise a ride on an avalanche.Enjoy your trip down, you arrogant, ignorant bastard.

I emailed my senators to, but they’re democrats, and are already supporting the bill.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 5:05 pm
Yep, more bad news. Kyl just got up and delivered yet another body blow saying basically they were going to force another cloture vote. But hypocrite a-hole Kyl says he is DOING A FAVOR for workers because employers pass along the UE tax extension in the form of lower wages and wouldn’t create more jobs. The Repubs have “a better idea” to amend along with “three or four others” the Dems won’t let by or the bill would have passed two weeks ago, he said. He never once said how much that UE tax ext. was. It’s $14 per employee, and as Kyl noted, it’s passed on to the workers anyway. You think $14 — a tax already being paid and was paid by unemployed workers when they worked — is worth holding up the extension. What a pig. And Kyl’s “better idea” is to steal money from the stimulus funds intended to create more jobs to pay for this. Looks like another cloture vote and the bill can’t be considered for ANOTHER 30 hours. Meanwhile, the House is about to devote its entire calender to health care. The Repubs are traitors to our nation and to us at this point.

Unbelievable, what is going on with this country-not only with this but with everything else… maybe if we wrap towels around our heads and shout aloud: “Ali Baba,” everyone will come running to our rescue.
Give the jobs away give the money away, sell out the country, keep everyone on drugs and make sure no one can afford to live or stay alive; that’s the way it appears to be and the sheep will be led to the slaughter… (the ones that haven’t died off yet)
Billion dollar bailouts to the huge corporations and try to feed us the BS that people like Bernie Madoff act and/or acted alone… (yah ok)
Its sickening that these PIGS don’t act quickly and appear to have no problem making everyone wait and wait and wait; and you wonder if the EMT’s will be delaying to get to the scene when some poor slob finally cracks and decides to unload on one or more of these bastards… I don’t condone or support that, I’m just stating the inevitable…
Hurry up and PLEASE PASS THE
EXTENSION(S): although you don’t care-we are barely staying afloat and borderline homeless… does that mean anything to any of you?
November 3rd, 2009 @ 5:35 pm
This is obscene. We need another revolution.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 5:42 pm
i keep hoping they’ll do something and the news just gets worse. they really don’t care. what’s the point in voting? none of them really give a damn. the democrats should have started this a long time ago. couldn’t obama just sign an executive order? i’ll never vote for a democrat again if this doesn’t get passed before thanksgiving. they’re all a bunch of rotten jerks.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 5:48 pm
I really can’t believe it… I am beginning to believe there is something else behing this…
November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:14 pm
I really can’t believe Repubicans keep delaying this extension and I really can’t believe the lack of concern for more than 200,000 Americans. I would love to see one of these people, who keep delaying this passage, be in our situations for one week. It will get done but it should have been done two weeks ago. That’s alright-people will remember this come election time.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:27 pm

November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:43 pm
Please pass the extension. I’m about to loose my house. The war in Iraq costed us billions if not trillions. Congress should deal with the problem here at home instead of helping other countries, like Iraq that hate and do nothing for our country. Please help me and my family by passing the unemployment extension. PLEASE HELP ME!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:50 pm
If I had as many enemies as these a**holes, I would keep my head on a swivel!!!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 6:59 pm
Now is the winter of our discontent. Viva la revolution!
Seriously, we should meet in Washington and “replace” them.
In a way you could look at this as self-imposed term limits.
No way anyone is going to vote Republican again.
I’m hearing that from people that have voted Republican all their life – even voted for W twice. In a few years there won’t be a GOP
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:01 pm
Call Mitch McConnell’s office 202) 224-2541
and call Jon Kyl’s office 202) 224-4521
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:08 pm
Next monday i will be living in my car with the flu, donating my American blood to survive. I believe they are trying to eliminate our numbers from the unemployment list. I don’t see many reports on TV about rising homeless numbers. I’m sure their holidays will be warm and comfortable, thanks to taxpayer dollars. I don’t have any more to give!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:10 pm
I am really saddened by all the politics that is going on while people who have lost their jobs because of the economic slow down. We are all suffering and because there are so little jobs out there we are depending on umployment to help pay our bills. I don’t have any respect for these government officials who don’t care about the American people.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:14 pm
Keep filing the paperwork even though your benefits have expired. Let the state and their governor put pressure on the Congress. Then they’ll really start getting scared.
Note how the elections in Virginia and New Jersey are turning out. Incumbents could be voted out across the board next year. You better get hurrying Senators!!!!!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:21 pm
republicans are traitors!! pass it on!!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:32 pm
I really dont get it…unemployment extensions not going thru when “WE” the so called American people work for over 40 years and business close, we have no health care, lost my home, living with my parents…and my dad hd asbestosis disease from working in Michigan Steel Mills had to PAY $250 a day for hositilization ad required to prepay but he died…now my mother has the same disease….history repeating itself…BECAUSE EMPLOYERS DIDNT LOOK AFTER EMPLOYEES HEALTH…AND WHO PAYS? NOW I have ran out of unemployment, no home, no healthcare, OH shame on me for working since I was 14 at as a carhop and now 54 workeup to an Administrative Aide and what do I get? Company closes it doors! So proud to be a “American” I see why everyone is going to Windsor for prescriptions and now JOBS!!! They are gonna close the god ole USA because we are either overqualified or they are not hiring!!
And now in the past 3 weeks buried two cousins struggling to keep families afloat…one age 46 of high blood pressure “HEART EXPLODED” and another age 57 who worked at Fords from Depression and high blood pressure….isnt it time to move on? DIEING PEOPLE it real its happening in AMERICA….AND DONT SAY MOVE BECAUSE WE ALL LIVE IN DIFFERENT STATES AND IT IS GOING N EVERYWHERE! gOLF COURSES CLOSING due to retires rising healthcare and nobody can go golfing? So all those emploees are out o jobs also! Come on we have PAID int this we have lost our benefits since late August…we are getting hungry and depressed…whos next that can’t handle pressure.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:34 pm
This just lets us know that we need to keep our hope in God cause he is faithful.Man will let you down everytime!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 7:56 pm
Man, this just as we all know don’t make any sense. I’ve been unemployed for almost 2 years, I used to work for WaMu before chase took over and I applied at a call center for 9 dollars an hour and was rejected because I had to much experience. The sad part about this is the person who interviewed me for this low paying position said that people with my background (banking) always leave the company when they get another offer that pays over what they pay which is 9.00hr and they don’t want to take that risk of just hiring someone because they need a job. And these republicans are sitting on their azzezz and laughing. Like they want us to suffer more because they want to add admendments to this bill which has nothing to do with the unemployment extension. What’s worst is we had 8 years of a repub president that went to war on false information and we the hard earning tax payers had to foot the bill for this so called war. I mean with all the hype about another terrorist attack and we need to go to war for our country the US OF A is in need. But now we all are feeling helpless in this crazy economy which we didn’t have nothing to do with this so called subprime market, and the banks were bailed out the big companies was bailed out and the American people that keeps this country afloat is suffering the most. What does it take for these people to see that we need help from our government again. I mean we pay taxes, we make charity donations when we go food shopping or whatever and we are here because we need help and they sit there and try to add more confusion to something that can be handled easily. It’s as if the republicans are saying yea we know you need help and since it’s up to us you have to give to recieve and thats the end of the story. what the …. is going on America? Cause this makes no sense. Same stories from all over this great United States of America and they still don’t care at all. What a shame man.. what a shame….
November 3rd, 2009 @ 8:01 pm
Let me see if I got this right. My unemployment is taxable and those taxes will be used to help pay the massive debt cause by the bank bail-out? I can’t get a loan because I don’t have a job. Now the $14 Dollar Tax that was being paid in on my behalf for the 30 years I worked only insured me for 26 weeks of unemployment benefits? Now Kyle Hitler wants the extension money to come from the federal stimulus money?
87 to 13 and 85 to 2 were the vote for cloture. That about as bi-partisan as it gets.
I am outrage and embarrassed watching our Senators on C-span. I have learned more about how our government works these past 4 weeks than I ever learned in school. What I learned is not only do we need a public option in health-care we also need another political party to choose from come election time.
The Democrats and Republicans are like a bitter married couple fighting over child custody in which the only winners are the lawyers.
I learned in life to pick my fights. There are so many things wrong with this country why can’t the Republicans find a fight worth fighting?
My question is to the unemployed in the states that these ego maniacs represent and that is how do feel about your elected representatives withholding your life line?
Our country was outraged when we saw the lack of empathy our government showed the Katrina victims. So, we shouldn’t be suprised that the same Senators, leftovers from the Bush reign of terror, are turning a blind eyed towards the unemployed.
We the taxpayer’s are the Senators Boss. Not the other way around. I think they have to be reminded of that fact. Forgive but don’t forget the next time you vote. And please vote.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 8:14 pm
amen Peter……it is stupid…..and i won’t miss a vote..i’m 59 and have never missed one and don’t plan on it now unless i’m planted….God Bless the USA with Senators that will have a wonderful thanksgiving and christmas
November 3rd, 2009 @ 8:16 pm
I live in Mobile,Alabama where Jeff Sessions also lives. I worked for a company that he knows very well-Mobile Rug & Shade, which was in business for over 70 years. I worked there for 15 years as assistant to the owner.(The current owner had it 2 years before he ran it into the ground). He let me go a few months before he could not pay anybody anymore due to his own stupidity. But anyway, Jeff just bought a new house( published in the paper) for almost 400,000. That is great for him & his family & our problems are ours—right????????? Anyway, I had to start drawing ss & unemployment. I am 64. I am hurting but I really feel sorry for all the people who are younger(or my age) & have children who can’t have any money BUT unemployment. I have read the stories & I really feel bad for ya’ll. I wish I could helf you & at least give you food. I know what it is like to not have food. I make too muck with ss & unemloyment to get food stamps. I have rent, car note , car ins, power & food & gas, so I know how you feel with a family to provide for & just have unemployment. I guess Jeff & Mary & their children & granchildren & all the family will be celebratimg Thanksgiving & Christmas at their new mansion. I hope they have fun. I always thought they were a sweet family. I know it is not all his fault, but whatever. Do illegel people have ss cards? You know they all get paid with cash. Is our SS card proof of our US citizenship? With all this technology wouldn’t it ring a bell if you did’nt have a ss card?????????????????
November 3rd, 2009 @ 8:20 pm
I agree with Jhon… Why are we spending millions and millions of dollars in Iraq “helping” people who are killing our soldiers? I have this crazy idea, how about we help ourselves… Just a thought. But that makes sense and apparently that isn’t what this country is about any more! I will never ever ever vote Republican again!!!!!!

Why wont the Dems let the Republicans have there amendments. Typical Dems playing politics. Makes me sick. I dont vote for the Democrats and never will
November 3rd, 2009 @ 9:20 pm
now that they delayed the vote pass election day, they will kill it all together
November 3rd, 2009 @ 9:27 pm
“Why wont the Dems let the Republicans have there amendments. Typical Dems playing politics. Makes me sick. I don’t vote for the Democrats and never will.”
The amendments are irrelevant to the bill, and this process has been drawn out by the minority party of NO.Ignoramus.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 9:30 pm
What is wrong with these senators,do they understand people are losing their cars, home and everything.I was laid off a year ago and haven’t been able to find nothing,Im living off my savings and it’s almost gone.I hope they pass this bill soon or Im gonna be homeless.what a shame people have to live like this, this is so sad.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 9:49 pm
ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS THAT MY UNEMPLOYMENT RAN OUT AND STILL HAVE NOT FOUND A JOB, BUT I JUST KEEP PRAYING THAT I GET LUCKY TO FIND ONE. NO THEY DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE OUT HERE OUT OF WORK ,BECAUSE THEY HAVE ONE TO GO TO EVERYDAY AND WE THE PEOPLE DEPENDING ON THEM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION. I DONT THINK THAT THEY EVEN CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE. YES I WANT TO WORK BUT WHEN YOU ARE OUT LOOKING FOR WORK NO ONE IS HIRING. I JUST PRAY THAT THEY DONT LEAVE US STUCK OUT LIKE THEY HAVE DONE IN THE PASS.ITS MILLIONS OF PEOPLE THATS OUT OF WORK THAT NEEDS A JOB AND ALSO STILL NEEDS THE HELP.I DONT KNOW WHATS GONNA HAPPEN WITH THE HOLIDAYS AROUND THE CORNER BEING A SINGLE PARENT OF 3 THATS TRYING TO KEEP THEM IN SCHOOL. THANK YOU THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY AT THIS TIME.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 9:54 pm
“…that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
Do any of these politicians who are holding up the unemployment extension (while people suffer and die) recall the Gettyburg Address???
November 3rd, 2009 @ 10:09 pm
I was working for chrysler for quite some time. Got laid off. I have a young daughter that I’m loosing because I can’t support my family. My daughters mom left me after 5 years n I’m totally devistated over it. I just got a eviction notice this morning. I’m loosing everything. I can’t even get a fast food job. Willing to relocate somewhere to work but do not have the funds to travel to look. I’m on the break to suicide right now. Can’t even afford medications to keep me level. I really need this break to get back on track. Can anyone tell me what a good state to move to, to look for work? I’m not looking for a handout I’m just looking for what I paid into for all the years I’ve worked. Please senate take action, sos!!! I’m almost about to break the law to get sent into prison atleast I’ll have shelter and food, talkin stupid but I don’t know what to do. I live in michigan where the unemployment rate is over 15% we need jobs people!!!
November 3rd, 2009 @ 10:15 pm
It shouldn’t matter what party you side with, or whatever. Look at the big picture people. We have millions out of work. Let’s deal with our own issues and NOW!! Put politics aside for now. Its not the time to play it right now. Its about the suffering of the american people
November 3rd, 2009 @ 10:58 pm
This needs to be passed…No one asked to lose there jobs…The financial industry is terrible and anyone in the same industry that I was in can relate…Its nearly impossible to get a job in the field at a salary that is substantial enough to pay expenses. Not saying unemployment rate is great but it is just enough to get by if you sacrafice a meal a day…sad to say but now due to not recieving unemployment i can no longer pay my bills which has led to my perfect credit going to garbage and this will now effect me for the next 7 years. thank you government for thinking of yourselves…wish they knew the suffering and stress that it causes on an individual…I wonder how much how much they are recieving for the delays in there decision process.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 11:02 pm
The Founding Fathers would kick these Senators in the Balls for pulling this nonsense and delaying ANY measure to protect the wellbeing of the real American People. Why is it so difficult to see that money is handed, by the billions, to foreign governments, businesses, and even special interest groups, but WE THE PEOPLE are being bent over and told to hold tight, “it’s going to hurt for a long time”.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 11:07 pm
Well, I did my part tonight by going and voting for all democrats on my state’s ballot. I haven’t done that since the mid-90s, and boy did it feel good. I have voted republican in the past, but dammit when I needed help they have taken an issue important to me and used it for a pissing match with the dems. Well guess what fellas.. maybe this time you will be the ones unemployed and might just get a little taste of it.
November 3rd, 2009 @ 11:38 pm
I think we need another 30 x 30 hours on this thing. No more free welfare entitlement bennys. Get to work.
November 4th, 2009 @ 3:45 am
This bill was given to them without amendments, and it should be passed by the Senate the same way.
I blame the Dems as much as I do the GOP. The Dems have the numbers and could have forced this bill through – but they didn’t. Last week Sen. Reid kowtowed to Sen. McConnell so ashamedly that McConnell is probably still wiping lipstick off his behind.
November 4th, 2009 @ 4:04 am
isn’t it amazing that we bail out all this companies and people like me have been working for 30 years and now I will be thrown out without the extra weeks? I am not a Dem, but come on GOP, we need some help. Yes , I know the theory, that we can live and not be motivated. Well, going from 75K to 8k is not something I enjoy. I am on websites and have a good resume and apply for 20 jobs a day, all over the country, I get responses, but no one is hiring. You may ask maybe I not the guy for the job, but I have lowered my job requirements and salary. GOP do you want me on the street?
November 4th, 2009 @ 4:10 am
ooh, one more thing, do you think, that I like to get this money? Our “elected” officials can go back and enjoy their high priced houses with their salaries that should be cut. Well even if I am on the street I can still vote them out off office.
I don’t want a hand out just some help, I earned it!
November 4th, 2009 @ 4:19 am
For all of you you think the democrats are supporting the bill, that is a misleading statement. It has been the ongoing policy of this administration to play partisan politics and shut out anyone who does not agree with their policies!
The Republicans of course are for the bill. OF COURSE! However, it is standard practice to attach things to bills – see economic stimulus package. Now you might not agree with that policy and that is ok. But that is the way it works in Congress. So stop giving the Democrats a free pass on this and start screaming at everyone. They are all holding this up. The Democrats won’t come to the table to discuss what the Republicans want and the Republicans are sticking to their guns, unfortunately with thousands of people on Main Street suffering because of it. In fact, i blame the Democrats more, after all, why won’t they use the left over stimulus money to fund this extension? Instead they want to tax, tax, tax.
Yes I am unemployed today (and for those of you wondering, yes my benefits have run out and i am struggling and am out of money like the rest of you), but i sure have hopes to become a productive member of society again. When that happens, i would like to keep some of my money instead of it going back to the government for these crazy, out of control spending policies that don’t work anyway!!!!!!
November 4th, 2009 @ 5:04 am
Looks to me like the people are more fed up with the Obama crap than anything. The same states that voted him in voted republican in the mid terms. The dems are the ones dinkin’ around and muckin’ it up!! Some of what the repubs want makes sence to me like not funding them liberal acorn jack offs. Besides can’t the majority (dems) just get it through? Thought that was what they had planned once they got the majority. That is one stupid ass party and they are going down.
November 4th, 2009 @ 5:07 am
Just hang in there guys, it will pass this week and will probably be signed early next week. All you libs, please tell your democrat senators to accept the republican add ons.
November 4th, 2009 @ 5:57 am
I think the senate is off until next Tuesday the 10th. Let’s see, the president leaves for Asia on Wednesday the 11th. Can he sign a bill while away from Washington? He’ll be back on the 20th just in time to see Congress leave for Thanksgiving vacation. No I don’t think this bill will be passed in November. Keeping fingers crossed for December. Meanwhile you can find me on the corner selling pencils out of a cup.
November 4th, 2009 @ 6:29 am
I have been unemployed for two years now and I think it all boils down to “politics as usual”. It does not even matter which side is stalling, the point is there they NEED to come to some type of agreement for US!! The people that are unemployed are democrats, republicans, and independents. These lawmakers need to do what they were elected to do and work for US. We need help and don’t care how they get it done. Everyone is going to be taxed in some way that’s the “way of the world”.
November 4th, 2009 @ 6:33 am
I have to disagree with Greg’s comment, It does not matter about some people fed up with Obama! This man is in a tough situation and I don’t care who you put in office, this picture would still be the same! people just need to get over it because Mr. Obama IS our president and he is doing the best for our country.
November 4th, 2009 @ 6:34 am
First let me say, without sounding odd, I take comfort in reading this board because I am in the same situation, and feel the same way – I’m unemployed and my husband is on disability for an injury, but, he’s an electrician so when he’s off disability onto unemployment he will go. The depression (now I know why they really called it that before!) all but defeats you. EVERY DAY I look for this “extension”. I’m on my 1st extension now which will run out oh, right about Christmas. The new extension won’t fix all of our household financial expenses but it’s something. I have to agree that the Republicans just don’t get it. I don’t know how they sleep at night. And it really pisses me off when anyone knocks Obama for the huge problems we have now. Excuse me, there was a certain republican in the oval office for 8 friggin years doing damage, then after 6+ months that Obama is in office, people get pissed at him because he hasn’t fixed this? 8+ years is a LONG TIME and trying to reverse that tide is difficult.
All I keep doing is looking around my house wondering what I’m going to end up losing. The olympics for us (I think the whole city held their breath) would have been a great way to provide 300,000+ jobs. All anyone could think was wow, if we get that, think of all the jobs it could provide, not just for Chicago, but for other companies all across the country.
I done run out of hope guys. Thank God though I have antidepressants, until our benefits run out anyway. Maybe the government can just give us those to tie us over!
November 4th, 2009 @ 6:43 am
Dave V. I read that the senate is off too. And (if)! we are correct in our information, that means that us unemployed will not be getting a check before Christmas. What kind of stimulus plan is that, to effectively squash the holiday spending that our economy depends on so much? I my old job we had to stay until the job was done and so should the senate and president.
November 4th, 2009 @ 6:44 am
The Senate is only off on Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving.
November 4th, 2009 @ 6:57 am
I found this site, it gives a lot of info about what’s going on today.

Chris, Typical Lib has to start with name calling. Quite pathetic. The two amendments are less federal funding for Obamas boys over at acorn and the second amendment is e-verify. Two good amendments. The Democrats are the ones at fault for holding this up. Not to mention if your boy Obama’s stimulus “porkulus” bill actually did something to create jobs instead of a complete failure we wouldnt be in this mess. Stop watching MSNBC and stop drinking the Obama kool-aid. WAKE UP CHRIS POWERS!
November 4th, 2009 @ 7:15 am
Wouldn’t be nice if we could do a cloture vote come election time and make them wait?
November 4th, 2009 @ 7:20 am
Just wanted to voice a heart felt opinion, my heart goes out to everyone on here as me & my family are in the same position with 3 children & the unemployment B.S. First off just want to say I totally agree with Peter above, It is so BULLSHIT! that I have worked my fingers to the bone in the automotive industry ( MY FIRST MISTAKE! ) for over 20 years & get handed 26 weeks of unemployment, I didn’t stop paying in after 26 weeks, but I swear here & now, I will NEVER!!! pay in another dime to this tax program NO WAY IN HELL!!! The second biggest mistake these idiots made was bailing out G.M. I worked for G.M. & let me tell you all here and now, G.M. started their own demise way back in 1975 with a little thing we all commonly know today as unleaded gasoline. For those that don’t know, the lead in the old leaded fuel, acted as a lubricant in the valve train and other engine areas, so take away the lead? Take away the lubrication. ( IT’S THAT SIMPLE! ) No lubrication, no motor! Again it’s just that simple. Did anyone ever notice that as the years progressed from 1975 to the present, no garages or repair shops OVERHAUL engines anymore???? Nope, we just replace the whole thing, that’s because the internal parts of the engines are so trashed out from not having lubrication in the fuel, there is nothing to rebuild or overhaul. They are simply pieces of scrap @ that point, of course that’s good for the Chinese, they just sold another junk engine YAH HOO!!! Anyway ANYONE thinking we will ever see our tax dollars invested in G.M. returned is a FOOL! that should already be evident, they are already asking for more of our money, Sure idiots, who do we make the check out to, hell it’s drawn off the first national bank of China anyway, they own us, and the sooner everybody gets it through their thick skulls they we did that to ourselves the better off we are all gonna be as well. Yah know it’s a rare occasion when it happens but Obama needs to step in the middle of Senate & LAY THE SMACK DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS NO WAY TO ACT AS THE PUBLIC SERVANT POSITIONS YOU WERE ALL HIRED INTO!!!

Oh Yeah & just so they know, the republicans keep trying to hold up the unemployment extension with this home tax credit B.S., by the time they get done, they will no longer have to worry about it because the people receiving the tax credit will have lost the property & homes they were just granted the tax credit for DUH!!!!!!! so all the way around, WHAT THE H*** IS THE POINT???

Well folk’s My story is that 1 have been working with computer for over 35 year’s,,But I get the same response over qualified. I think over qualified means I’m to old [59]. I been without work for 3 1/2 year’s. Been selling what I own to get by. When I lose my house all I’ll have is my car and a suitcase of cloth’s. That’s my reward for a life of work, But I thank God for giving me `this day and the next. May God be on your side also.

I’ve been on unemployment since Sept 2 ’08. I too am on the verge of losing everything. This is not a Republican vs Democrat problem… it’s a humanistic one which the senate is refusing to notice. Obama adopted this mess so pointing fingers is unethical.
This is a story of us living in cars, children going hungry, people freezing in weeks to come as we enter the winter months.
So let’s remove the finger pointing and fix the problem. I do not have a clue what I’ll do once I’ve lost my unemployment. I have put out at least 25 resumes a week to no avail. I guess I’ll have to sell everything and move to the tent cities. I have worked my entire life and worked hard and have gone through our life savings and have also lost TONS of money due to the Madoff situation. I have been told I’m over qualified to work at McDonald’s, Walmart, etc. How can that be? I been the main cook for my family for over 30 years now but I’m over qualified and yet can’t flip hamburgers and run a cash register.
So what is this really all about?
November 4th, 2009 @ 8:09 am
I am in the same situation as everyone else who is posting here. I lost my job 14 months ago and my unemployment benefits ran out a month ago. That was the only helping keep my family afloat. These senators (Republicans AND Democrats) are all selfish, idiot losers and have no idea what the average American is going through. While I do not wish suffering on anyone else, it is comforting to read these posts and see that many other people are in the same boat as me. Hang in there people, this bill will get passed it just may take some more time. As for the loser senators holding this up…..there is this thing called KARMA and hopefully it will find you soon.

End of the road! Let me tell you I’m disgusted with this whole situation. I have worked for over 30 years and have always paid into the government! I had a great job and was laid off due to my company relocating. I have a degree and have been looking for a job for over a year. My unemployment has just ended. I have a child, mortgage and the usual bills. I pay top dollar for health insurance. This is so frustrating as I can’t even find a minimum wage position. I hope something gets passed soon or we’ll all be living on the streets. Maybe if we were all from other countries we would get some assistance and free health care!
November 4th, 2009 @ 8:35 am
My unemployment benefits ran out 2 weeks ago. If this extension passes do I qualify even though they had already ran out? I just need a piece of mind on this issue, I am a mother of 4 small children and am having serious money issues here..
November 4th, 2009 @ 8:46 am
They can bailout and protect these big banks and insurance companies but they can’t help the very citizen’s that paid for these bailouts! Criminals! They are bleeding off our wealth! The government protects these big companies and allows the Federal reserve (Actually it should be called the Private Reserve) hand out money without transparency. They have nothing to worry about because the taxpayers will be let holding the bag in the end. The government doesn’t represent the people they represent Wall street and the big corporations. After all, isn’t that who lines their pockets with green backs? We are being run by a mob of criminals that should be referred to as “The Banksters”. Plain and simple they are all criminals! Democrats and Republicans!

I am 51 years old, worked since I was 16 with the exception of the birth of my two children. I have been unemployed for 2 years. Like so many others here, I cannot find work. I raised my kids on my own after divorce, kept the house and roof over their heads, and food on the table…ALONE. Now, since I have been unemployed, I have lost my house of 25 years to foreclosure, my car and, most important, my health. There was a few times last year I had no money coming in. Thank God I had a landlord that cared. Never in a MILLION years did I ever think that I would be walking around a convenience store seeing what I could buy with the $1.00 in change I had in my pocket, and not a morsel of food home. Can our government even start to understand what that feels like? The stress? The humility? The feeling of absolute doom? It was too much. I had a massive heart attack 6 months ago. I mean, how much can a heart take?? Now I am an American who is straining the system by having to apply for charity care at my hospital for all the upcoming surgeries. Let them keep sending the bills…I can’t pay them, I have been without unemployment since mid September. What are they going to take from me if I don’t pay??? It’s already gone. It’s a viscous circle of insanity. I cannot help but think of all these DEMS and GOPS going Christmas shopping for their loved ones and returning home in their luxury cars, pulling into the driveway of their mini mansions to go in to eat their dinners…do ya think they are thinking about us??? Highly unlikely. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not jealous, I just know they have the power to help all of us in this situation and all it is, is delay after delay, after delay. God help us all.
November 4th, 2009 @ 9:01 am
I am confused. How is it that two people can hold up the bill? Isn’t it a majority? Someone please explain. Also, can’t Reid override these two pigs?

November 4th, 2009 @ 10:31 am
I really hope this is signed by Obama on Sunday. I am not as bad off as some and my hearts go out to all of you. Especially those with small children. It is a shame and so true that the government will pour so much money into other countries and not take care of home. I guess in gov’t home is not where the heart is!
November 4th, 2009 @ 10:33 am
My unemployment is about to run out in two weeks and really need this assistace. As everyone knows, there just are not enough jobs to go around. In addition, what is the government doing to create jobs and why can they not suspend the 10% penalty on 401k programs so we can use it to help make ends meet?
November 4th, 2009 @ 10:41 am
97 yea 1 nay….lets get moving!
November 4th, 2009 @ 11:39 am
brandon, where did u get the info. that “it is done”? I have been without income since September 5 and have two months of bills to pay. I surely hope the pigs will not make us wait….are they heartless enough to take the “thanks” out of Thanksgiving?
November 4th, 2009 @ 1:04 pm
At least we are not eating horses, not that we ever would, thank God.
I’m Country Carl the Artist and Advocate for
additional unemployment benefits on Unemployment-Gone-Mad dot com.
Here in Nashville the pawn shops are the only ones mining gold. These New Depression Blues times can drag a good man to the bottle. As we wait for an unemployment extension, thousands more become dumpster divers, tent pitchers and street corner beggars. Even pets are becoming a burden for tearful owners and freaking out when they become abandon.
November 4th, 2009 @ 3:59 pm
Bill just passed, 98-0! Thanks God!
