Verizon Wireless Motorola Droid X Sells Out Online – Apple iPhone 4 Finally Sees Competition

Posted on | July 19, 2010 | Comments Off

For quite some time the Apple iPhone has sat as the king of the smartphone world.  While Research in Motion has its place in the business industry with the Blackberry few can argue that the iPhone has found it’s way to the top of the smartphone industry.  The iPhone 4 sold approximately 1.5 million units in the first day and some predict that 3 million will be sold in the first month.  Unfortunately, there have been some well documented issues with the iPhone 4 when it comes to the antenna.

Another major issue with the iPhone is the fact that customers must use AT&T as a service provider.  With Verizon Wireless being the largest mobile provider in the United States it was only time before another smartphone was released that would rival the iPhone.  Early indications are that the rival to the iPhone 4 could be the Motorola Droid X.  The Droid X sold out online and at many Best Buy and retail stores nationwide on the first day of sales and customers will now have to wait until July 23rd to get a new Droid X smartphone.

The Droid X, which runs on the Android Operating System, offers some very impressive features that may even top the iPhone 4.  The new Motorola phone has a 4.3 inch display, HDMI output and an 8 megapixal camera that can take 720p videos.  With the world becoming more mobile each and every day it looks as if Verizon and Motorola may have come up with a competior for the Apple iPhone.

Only time will tell if sales of the Motorola Droid X will continue but at first glance it looks as if Verizon customers are excited to see the new Android based phone.  If Apple cannot solve the antenna problem with its new free case offer then the Droid X may benefit greatly.
