The Bachelorette Ali TV Ratings Prove to ABC that Drama Can Be Profitable in 2010

Posted on | July 19, 2010 | No Comments

The words Bachelorette/Bachelor and drama seem to go hand in hand.  Any man or woman needing 25 members of the opposite sex to swoon over them is probably not the most down to earth individual.  With that being said ABC has learned quickly that high drama leads to high TV ratings.

During the week of July 5, 2010 the Bachelorette Ali received a 6.0 rating and was the #4 show of the week behind NCIS (#1) and America’s Got Talent (#2 and #3).  Now that the Bachelorette has narrowed her choices the drama and ratings are likely to increase over the next two episodes.

While ABC will not get the advertising revenue dollars that they did on the Lost Finale (the Target commercials were great!) or major sporting events they do know that a certain demographic will be glued to the TV set or computer.  We know that the 35-44 year old businessman making $100k plus will likely not be the demographic ABC is going after.  There are many advertising dollars for the 18-34 single female demographic though.

With the summer months be a struggle when it comes to TV Ratings all media outlets are looking for big numbers in hopes of ramping up advertising revenue.  With the Bachelorette Ali down to three men it will be interesting to see how the TV ratings move up over the next two weeks.  Full disclosure: I have never seen the Bachelorette Ali but I know there are many single females that cannot get enough drama filled entertainment (ie The Hills).
