Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson Settles for $1.5 Million Bonus in 2010 with $550,000 Base Salary

One of the most exciting players in the NFL will be reporting to camp very soon as Tennesse Titans running back Chris Johnson has agreed to take $1.5 million of his $2.5 million bonus in 2010 instead of 2012. In 2010, Johnson will receive around $2 million when his bonus is combined with a base salary of $550,000.
In 2009, Chris Johnson rushed for over 2,000 yards and set a single season record for yards from scrimmage. Considering that several running backs having a base salary over $3 million it is safe to say that Chris Johnson is unpaid for his abilities. Another reason that Johnson is underpaid is the fact that he is still in the prime of his career at age 24. Most NFL running backs continue to perform well prior to the age of 30.
With a base salary of $550,000 Johnson is making close to the same about in base money as Justin Green of the Cardinals and and Luke Lawton of the Raiders. In 2009, Lawton had 31 receiving yards and no rushing yards and Green did not play in a single game. When Johnson signs his next contract there is little doubt that he will get paid for his services, likely to the tune of several million dollars a year without caculating the bonus.
