VA Home Loan Mortgage Rates October 19 – 30 Fixed Higher

Posted on | October 19, 2009 | No Comments

VA home loan mortgage rates for October 19th, 2009 are mixed today with the conventional 30 year fixed mortgage rate being higher at 4.85% while the 15 year fixed is up to 4.33%.  The 5/1 ARM is also up to 3.86%.  VA home loan mortgage rates are generally .5% to 1% lower than conventional mortgage rates so you can do the math and see that VA home loan rates still remain at extremely low levels even after a day in which rates are higher.

The 10 year treasury rate yield is currently sitting rate at its 50 day moving average but is declining today.  If there is any significant news to push the 10 year yield lower we could see it fall below the 50 day moving average and likely grind sideways or continue to move lower.  If the 10 year yield starts moving lower we have a chance to see mortgage rates make one last run towards reaching an all time low.  It will take a strong decline in the 10 year yield for this to happen.

The more likely situation is that the 10 year yield will find support and move above the 50 day moving average and start pulling the average higher.  If the 50 dma starts to up trend then we are going to see higher mortgage rates.  Mortgage interest rates will not shoot up drastically but there is a good chance that if the 10 year yields starts a strong up trend that we will be seeing mortgage rates closer to 6% than 5%; only time will tell so keep an eye on the 10 year treasury rate yield.
