Many news headlines are reading, “Hillary Clinton Could be the Next Secretary of State.”  We all seem to be asking the same question; what does the Secretary of State do?  The following are some of the primary responsibilities:

  1. Falls Fourth in the “Presidential Line of Succession,” 1st among Cabinet members
  2. Is the principal spokesperson for the president on United State foreign policy.
  3. Serves as a member of the National Security Council.
  4. Prepares the budget for foreign affairs programs.
  5. Prepares the budget to make contributions to multinational organizations including the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Some well known former Secretary’s of State include

  1. Thomas Jefferson -  the 3rd President and one of our Founding Fathers.
  2. John Marshall -  wrote the Supreme Court opinion on Marbury vs. Madison
  3. James Madison the 4th President
  4. James Monroe -  the 5th President
  5. John Quincy Adams – the 6th President
  6. Henry Clay – founder and leader of the Whig party
  7. Martin Van Buren – the 8th President
  8. John Calhoun – the 7th Vice President
  9. James Buchanan – the 15th President
  10. Henry Kissinger – negotiated a settlement to end the war in Vietnam
  11. Madeleine Albright – the first female Secretary of State
  12. Colin Powell – the first African American Secretary of State
  13. Condoleezza Rice – the first African American Female Secretary of State

It seems that in the early history of the United State that the Secretary of State was a stepping stone to becoming the president.  Will history repeat itself?

I dont understand how Hillary Clinton is supposed to be a good choice for Secretary of the State…….Even though she tried to say she had foreign experience, and the little tidbit about being in Bosnia under enemy fire, it turned out to do more damage to her than good. She may have other qualifications but she surely doesnt have foreign experience like Madyln Albright or Condoleeze Rice had. I am very concerned that this is going to come back to haunt Obama with 2 Clintons back in he mix again. I didnt vote for Hilary because I did not trust her, and I still dont trust her. I also do not believe she is entitled to anything because of all the votes the media keeps mentioning………so what?? it didnt win her he election did it??…..I know Obama wants to work across the aisles in a non-partisian way but I just dont believe that Hillary has the same sincerity that Barack has and it scares me to think that she and her husband could cause a lot of problems.

it seems like, if Hillary becomes the Sec. State, then there will be some serious personality and agenda conflict between her and Obama

I’m not for or against Hillary But to hear people put the Clintons down really blows my mind. Yes they are not the perfect couple but in life who really has a perfect marriage. But the one thing the sticks out in my mind is how do you look past the money we had in surplus when the clintons where in the white house. The economy was booming the unemployment rate was done. And you have to give them credit for that. Just look up national debt and you will see what i’m talking about.

I am pleased that Hillary will be the Secretary of State. From watching her for many years while her husband was president and then while she has been a senator, I think this is a lady that gets the job done. No matter how tough the job, she will be the kind to research and make sure her information is accurate before presenting it to anyone that it may effect. I feel that she is also a great leader and delegator. I further believe that she and “President elect” Obama will work very well together. Great for our country, God knows we need good people to take care of our country. Greed has almost destroyed our wonderful “Old gal”.

Keep in mind that the Secretary of State only advises the president on foreign affairs. I think it’s a good idea to pick someone that will offer up criticism different ideas.

Is this really a decision made of Obama or is it a much higher level decision, i.e. Nat’l Security Council, the Committe of Foreign Affairs, and/or the Tri-Lateral Commission all combined and involved to regulate world affairs and the World Banking Systems to regualate Internat’l Monetary Funds and all the monies for the BIG BOYS ?

For anyone who doubts Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy experiences – - let me say this…SHE HAS IT!! Since some of you did not bother to look up her credentials, and just followed the fad; WATCHED MSNBC, and Hillary bashed – - Senator Clinton has been a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee for the past 6 plus years. She is the first female ever to be ELECTED TO THE COMMITTEE. Don’t know what this committee does or what she does – LOOK IT UP!! Like it or not, she is the most experienced, qualified candidate we have, and she would be the president had not the nomination been GIVEN to the President Elect In Training. Also, had it not been for her endorsement of Obama to her supporters, many of whom would never have voted Obama – you all need to start thanking your lucky stars rather than continuing to bash the Clintons.

When President Clinton was in the white house, our country was a better place!!!! Our economy was great and we were somewhat at peace. Everyone in politics has skeletons in their closets. Some are just better at hiding it!

First of all, I’d like to say, Hillary WOULD be our President Elect if the votes were counted, instead of Delegates.
    On to other matters..
She would do well no matter what job she does. It is part of her total gene makeup. She must succeed, to please herself, as well as, all of us.
She really does care about our Country too. She, as President, and Bill by her side, would be DY-NO-MITE~~~~

I believe Hillary would do good in this role. If she would have been the one going against John McCain I would have voted for her in a second! When the Clintons were in office we had a better country. So what if Bill had an affair, Hillary has always stood strong! I went to one of her rallies and everything she said and has been saying has been for the benifit of the American people. She is a true patriot and we NEED her to help us in the comming years. Especially with forign affairs!
